Apakah pemerintah AS sakit hati karena Presiden Bush ditimpuk sepatu? Sudah pasti. Tapi di Irak, sepatu melayang itu sebagai pamitan terindah untuk Bush. Muntazer Al Zaidi dieluk-elukkan di Irak. Tuntutan masyarakat agar dia dibebaskan juga semakin kencang. Mereka menilai tindakan Al Zaidi menimpuk Bush dengan sepatunya sebagai tindakan paling berani.

Sahabat Al Zaidi di stasiun TV Al Baghdadia, mengungkapkan betapa bencinya Al Zaidi pada Bush. Dia menganggap Bush sebagai tokoh yang memerintahkan perang di Irak.

"Melempari sepatu pada Bush merupakan ciuman pamitan terbaik hingga sejauh ini ... itu merupakan ungkapan bagaimana rakyat Irak dan bangsa Arab lainnya membenci Bush," tulis Musa Barhoumeh, editor koran independen Yordania, Al-Gahd, Selasa (16/12).

Di Washington, Al Zaidi dicap sebagai orang yang cuma mencari perhatian.

"Tak diketahui apa motivasi orang itu, ia tampaknya jelas hanya berusaha mendapatkan perhatian atas dirinya," kata Jurubicara Deplu AS, Roberet Wood, kepada para wartawan.

Pemerintah Irak mencap tindakan Zaidi sebagai 'memalukan' dan menuntut permintaan maaf dari pemimpin redaksinya yang berkerdudukan di Kairo. Namun Bos Al Zaidi malah menuntut pembebasan reporternya itu. (sumber: inilah.com)
